Peer Support

Peer support is very important to the students’ academic journey. If students feel they are part of an academic community, they are more likely to remain motivated and positive and continue to be active agents in their learning journey.

Students who feel connected to others (other students and academics) are more likely to feel a greater sense of belonging, engage more with the education programme, orientate themselves to Queen Mary and develop the skills they need to successfully negotiate their academic studies.

Encourage your students to reach out to their peers to provide academic, social and emotional support. Remind and help facilitate your students to harness the power of the peer group to air and respond to problems, and to offer mutual support. How they choose to communicate will be decided by the peer group; it is important that Advisors encourage advisees to remain in contact with their peers to help sustain group cohesion and communication.
