The Medical College of Saint Bartholomew’s Hospital Trust

The Medical College of Saint Bartholomew’s Hospital Trust promotes the advancement of all aspects of medical and dental education and research at the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, Queen Mary University of London.

More information about the Trust, including a list of the current Trustees, can be found on the Trust’s website.

The Trust provides ongoing support for medical and dental education and research through grant funding. The Trustees work closely with the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry when assessing applications for funding and to ensure that its funds are being used in accordance with the conditions of the grants and represent the best use of Trust resources. Applications for grant-funding should generally be made through and with the support of the Faculty.

PhD Studentships (see also Trust website)

In most years the Trust awards a number of PhD studentships for clinically qualified applicants for up to three years. The studentships cover the home/EU PhD registration fees, the student's salary at current MRC rates and consumables up to £6,000 per year.

The Trust advertises jointly with the Faculty for candidates annually, when projects become available and runs an application and interview process with the Faculty to award the individual studentships.

The Trust also occasionally awards non-clinical PhD Studentships.

Other funding

The Trust has the discretion to award up to £50,000 per annum in ad hoc funding to support worthwhile research and educational projects at the Faculty which require emergency or short-term funding, with an individual award limit of £10,000. Further information can be found on the Trust’s website.

The Trust also funds a variety of sizeable initiatives to promote and support medical and dental education and research at the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry. For example, the Trust is funding the Chair (and other ancillary administrative positions to support the Chair) of the newly formed Institute of Population Health Sciences for five years and provides ongoing support for the Student Explainer programme at the Centre of the Cell.
