Project Description

Following the success of the LHC experiments in measuring the basic production modes of the Higgs boson, the time has come to make detailed measurements of Higgs boson production. New particles may modify Higgs interactions, causing the boson to be produced with higher or lower probability than expected in certain momentum or angular ranges. Thus measuring differential kinematic distributions of produced Higgs bosons has the potential to be the first clue to discovery of new physics beyond the Standard Model!  The project is to develop these measurements using the ATLAS detector at the LHC, taking advantage of the as-yet unexplored potential of the full Run 2 dataset to make finer measurements with higher precision than was previously possible.

Requirements

The student is encouraged to spend one year in Geneva during the course of their PhD. Some knowledge of C++ and statistics is desirable.
