Postgraduate Lectures

Graduate students in the PPRC participate in a series of intercollegiate lectures organised within the University of London (jointly with Brunel, Royal Holloway and UCL). The lectures are described in detail on the intercollegiate lecture web page and cover the following subjects:

  • The Standard Model and beyond
  • Symmetry and conservation laws
  • Statistical analysis of data
  • Analysis methods in particle physics
  • UNIX and Root
  • Detectors
  • Trigger and data acquisition
  • CP violation and B Physics
  • Neutrino physics
  • Hadron collider physics
  • LHC physics
  • QCD phenomenology and parton densities
  • Linear collider physics & Particle Accelerators

This material is taught over the first semester: see the intercollegiate lecture web page for detailed programmes and yearly schedule. There will be a set of open book exams held during the month of January to asses the student's comprehension of the course.

At the end of the first year, most of our students attend the RAL summer school which is an excellent opportunity to polish up theory knowledge, meet other UK PhD students, and present research.
