We are proud to partner with Beijing International Studies University. This partnership allows us to offer students the chance to study in London and Beijing and get degrees from both institutions.
As a student at BISU, there are various ways you can join us at Queen Mary
Via the 4+1 route: Students who have completed a bachelors degree from BISU in these schools:
- School of English Language, Literature and Culture
- School of International Relations
- School of Chinese Culture and Communication
- School of Translation and Interpreting
- School of European Studies
- School of Middle Eastern Studies
are able to apply for a Masters programme in these schools at Queen Mary:
- Schools of the Arts
- Department of Politics and International Relations
- School of Economics and Finance
Via the 1+1+1 route: Complete Masters Year one at BISU, take year two at Queen Mary studying one of our Masters degrees, then return to BISU for Year three and completion of the BISU Masters degree. This route is open to students on the following BISU programmes:
- SCHOOL OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE, LITERATURE AND CULTURE:
- SCHOOL OF CHINESE CULTURE AND COMMUNICATION:
and applies to masters programmes in these schools at Queen Mary.
- Schools of the Arts
- Department of Politics and International Relations
- School of Economics and Finance
This can also be studied as a 2+1 route, with Masters Year 1 and 2 at BISU, then take Year 3 at Queen Mary studying one of our Masters degrees, which will also complete your home Masters degree. You may be able to take advantage of the Graduate Visa under the 2+1 route.
Via the 2+1+1+1 route:
This arrangement comprises 2 years of study on any programme leading to an Undergraduate degree award from the following BISU Schools:
- School of English Language, Literature and Culture
- School of International Relations
- School of Chinese Culture and Communication
In the third year, join Queen Mary for any selection of 4 modules per semester (from all Queen Mary faculties) which are of a relevant subject area to the degree programme being studied at BISU. Then return to BISU for the fourth year. On completion of the Bachelor's degree from BISU, students can return for any relevant Master's programme from the following Schools at Queen Mary:
- Department of Politics and International Relations
- School of the Arts
- Centre for Commercial Law Studies
- School of Business and Management
- School of Economics and Finance
Via the 3+1+1 route:
This arrangement comprises 3 years of study on any programme leading to an Undergraduate degree award from the following BISU Schools:
- School of English Language, Literature and Culture
- School of International Relations
- School of Chinese Culture and Communication
In the fourth year, join Queen Mary for any selection of 4 modules per semester (from all Queen Mary faculties) which are of a relevant subject area to the degree programme being studied at BISU. On completion of the Bachelor's degree from BISU, students can return for any relevant Master's programme from the following Schools at Queen Mary:

- School of the Arts
- Centre for Commercial Law Studies
- School of Business and Management
