Translational Immunology Group

The Translational Immunology Group at EMR, led by Prof Costantino Pitzalis, focuses on research into the pathogenesis and treatment of Rheumatological disease including inflammatory arthritides, such as Rheumatoid Arthritis, Psoriatic Arthritis and Spondyloarthritis, and connective tissue diseases.

Our research aims to provide a better understanding of the biological processes involved in the development of these complex multi-system diseases and why individual patients have different responses to standard therapies. Our goal is to improve treatment and prognosis for patients with Rheumatological conditions through the identification of new therapy targets, the development of new medication, improving current medication delivery methods, and personalising existing therapy for patients based on their individual biology.

This team consists of 1 senior lecturer, 2 clinical lecturers, 3 clinical research fellows, 1 postdoctoral researcher, and 5 PhD students.
