Let's Talk Hearts

These free talks provide a Biomedical Research Centre-led forum to learn about heart conditions, how (and why) you should keep your heart healthy, and the latest research on cardiovascular health.

The first cycle of talks was supported by a grant from Barts Charity and have continued with the support of the NIHR Barts Biomedical Research Centre.

Let 's Talk Hearts talks and related activities such as exhibition stands are run with the support of NIHR Barts Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) Public and Patient Advisory Group (PPAG).

For more information about the work of PPAG, see patient and public engagement activities

2020 marked the 10th year of Let's Talk Hearts. Many thanks to all the speakers and attendees who have taken part in the seminar series. Many thanks also to the many volunteers who continue to help to run and support these events.

In June 2022 a Let's talk hearts heart health themed exhibition stand formed part of the Queen Mary University of London's lively Festival of Communities.

In October 2022 an in-person Let's talk hearts talk was held for the first time at Barts Pathology Museum, a unique venue only open for special events. For more about the museum see https://www.qmul.ac.uk/pathologymuseum/about/

In February 2023 attendees could enjoy two virtual Let's talk hearts talks. The first talk was by Community Smiles (dental student volunteers) on dental/health related topics. Community Smiles also recently took part in this year's Barts and Queen Mary Science Festival with a talk providing guidance for young people interested in a career in dentistry.
The second talk on understanding more about blood pressure was by Doctor Naderi who is currently studying at Queen Mary. More about Doctor Naderi's work can be found on his youtube channel, see https://www.youtube.com/c/TheHeartDoctor/about.
