Identification of autoantigens and their potential post-translational modification in EGPA and Severe Eosinophilic Asthma (IDEA)

[IRAS Project ID 274097] [REC Ref. No 20/PR/0004]

Status: Open to recruitment

This is a laboratory-based research study using blood and sputum samples from healthy controls and patients with eosinophilic granulomatous polyangiitis (EGPA), severe eosinophilic asthma, and other eosinophilic diseases. The aim is to determine the presence, or not, of auto-antibodies to self-peptides in severe eosinophilic asthma and EGPA, and to characterise whether they may be a useful diagnostic marker in such diseases.

IDEA Bio & Data-Resource Metrics

The study aims to recruit 120 participants (90 patients and 30 healthy controls). Samples of blood and sputum (phlegm) will be collected. From these samples, we will isolate antibodies and immune cells that we will further study and compare to clinical measures of the disease.
