Profile

 Dr (Katharine) Julia Hurry graduated from dentistry from King’s College London in 2019. During her undergraduate training, she enjoyed taking on the role of Treasurer and Sponsorship Co-ordinator for the KCL Dental Society. 

After graduation, she undertook her foundation dental training at 2 Green Dental in Crayford, where she still works part-time treating both paediatric and adult patients. Julia gained her Membership of Faculty of Dental Surgery with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in 2021. 

In her current role at QMUL, Julia balances her academic interests with clinical core training. She hopes to continue her training in paediatric dentistry as well as undertaking a doctoral fellowship. 

In her free-time, Julia volunteers with the Dental Wellness Trust to provide dental screening and treatment to children who do not otherwise have access to dental care.

Teaching

Whilst an undergraduate, Julia provided tutoring and mock interviews to prospective medical and dental students. Since being at QMUL, she has supervised 4th and 5th year student on the evening dental emergency clinics. Julia has completed the RCPSG Developing the Clinical Trainer course and is aiming to complete her Certificate of Learning and Teaching this year.

 

Research

Research Interests:

Julia’s research interests include promoting prevention of dental decay and improving access to dental care for children, particularly those in vulnerable groups. She also has an interest in dental anomalies and the use of multi-disciplinary management to improve patient care pathways.

Julia recently presented a case of multiple dens evaginatus at an international paediatric dental conference. She was awarded the Guy’s Centenary Award during her undergraduate degree for clinical and research work completed whilst on her elective.
