International Centre for DClinDent Studies

Here at the Institute of Dentistry, we have a proud history of delivering professional doctorates in clinical dentistry (DClinDents) to a truly international cohort of students. These degrees combine academic study, research, clinical and laboratory practice to give students a completely rounded training, which will enhance their dental practice and support their career development.

World-leading research and teaching

Students will benefit from teaching by our world-leading academics, who are experts in their specific fields of dentistry and active both clinically and in research. This excellence is evidenced by our league table rankings: we were placed 3rd in the world for research citations (citations by paper) and 14th in the world overall for dentistry in the latest QS World University Rankings by Subject (2021).

State-of-the-art facilities

Our dental school is located at The Royal London Dental Hospital in Whitechapel, east London. These new premises provide cutting-edge technology, superb education and research facilities for clinical dentistry and a vastly improved patient experience. Our location also offers students exciting opportunities to develop an understanding of health and treatment of disease in a diverse local community within a global context.

Our student body

Our first DClinDent programme was established in 2015 and since then we have trained more than one hundred students, who have developed their careers since graduating from Queen Mary. Some have progressed to specialist dental roles, while others have chosen to follow the clinical academic route.

Last year, we enrolled 24 new students across our seven specialist programmes from across the world. We limit the number of places on all our DClinDents to ensure that students receive dedicated supervision and support from our academic and professional staff. This also means that we have a small, friendly, international and supportive student body of dental professionals, who are all focused on developing their specialist knowledge and skills and can share their local and global experiences.

Student testimonials:

“My favourite thing about my degree is that it combines core knowledge, clinical experience and research. I believe that this Course is improving my clinical management skills of all the different oral medicine conditions I could encounter in my future career. It is building my confidence both as a future Oral Medicine Specialist and Researcher.

The facilities QMUL provide have made my study experience enjoyable. I am certainly benefiting from the Lab Facilities at the Blizard Institute, where I interact with various people across different departments and backgrounds. This has improved my knowledge in various clinical research approaches. I’m learning all the time.

The University has multiple libraries, with one specific for Dentistry and Medicine, fully equipped classrooms, easily accessible computers and study rooms which made my learning experience easier and more enjoyable.”
