Following the great success of the first edition, the School of International Arbitration, Queen Mary University of London partnered again this year with the University of Vienna and the University Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne to co-organise the second edition of their Joint Research Seminar in Paris. The seminar was hosted in the majestic Amphi Sainte-Barbe at the Sorbonne. It was an intensive two-day long gathering (February 29 to March 1) that brought together LLM and PhD students from the respective universities.
This seminar provided a vibrant platform to exchange ideas regarding international arbitration between passionate and dedicated young legal professionals. Over the two days, attendees engaged in rich discussions on a wide array of arbitration topics. From taking us to outer space to teach us the complexities of space arbitration disputes, to bringing us back to earth to learn about the cutting-edge intersections of artificial intelligence and intellectual property in arbitration, attendees were launched into uncharted territories of legal discourse. The presentations and the engaging debates only showcased the depth and diversity of arbitration issues.
A highlight of the seminar was the delicious dinner at Port du Salut on February 29th. This dinner wasn't just about enjoying great food and wine; it brought everyone closer, creating a bond between attendees and professors. Mixing academic debates with fun social time and networking made the seminar memorable and valuable.
Special gratitude is extended to Professors Maxi Scherer and Maria Fanou (School of International Arbitration, Queen Mary University of London), Christian Koller (University of Vienna), and Mathias Audit and Sylvain Bollé (University Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne), whose tireless efforts made this event possible.
