Become our Internship Partner

Empower students, empower your firm with the Centre for Commercial Law Studies' work experience programme.

At CCLS, we are dedicated to equipping our students with transferrable skills that are essential for their future careers. Our work experience programme stands as a cornerstone of this commitment, nurturing the skills development of our students, and empowering them with the practical knowledge necessary for their future pursuits. It offers them invaluable real-world exposure to the legal field beyond the confines of academia.

Queen Mary collaborates with a diverse range of organisations, spanning the private, public and third sectors, to offer enriching work experience opportunities. Explore our QM Jobs Blog to delve into the success stories of both employers and students who have participated in our programme.

Explore the options for partnership:

Part-time work experience

Engage with our students on a part-time basis, allowing them to dedicate up to 20 hours per week during term time. Projects can range from research-based tasks to professional assignments such as live cases/deals and business development support.

Full-time Internship

Offer full-time internships to our students upon completion of their dissertations. These internships, lasting from a minimum of three weeks to three months, provide opportunities for graduate-level assignments with the possibility of extension.

Micro-internship

Provide short-term, unpaid work experiences designed for students with minimal legal exposure. These engagements require a maximum commitment of 10 hours per week for up to two months, accommodating students during and after their studies.

Project-based work experience

Partner with us on a project-based work experience, specifying the project type, required legal specialism, and desired number of students. We will then facilitate the selection process by presenting a pool of qualified student CVs for your consideration.

Prize essay competition

Host an essay competition through our platform, inviting LLM students to delve into a topic with a practical application. The winner, in addition to receiving a monetary prize, will secure an internship opportunity ranging from three weeks to four months during the autumn term.

Financial considerations

Queen Mary is committed to fair compensation practices and encourages all internship hosts to adhere to the London Living Wage standard of £13.15 per hour. While micro-internships remain unpaid, hosts are expected to cover students’ expenses either through stipends or reimbursements.

Building relationships with internship partners

For first-time collaborations, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is required to outline the basic expectations of all parties involved. This non-binding agreement ensures clarity regarding responsibilities and can be tailored to suit specific needs.

Our commitment to supporting internship partners

We facilitate the entire process, from advertising opportunities to screening applications and presenting you with a curated list of candidates for interviews. Once a selection is made, we handle communication with unsuccessful applicants, ensuring a smooth and professional experience for all involved.
