Why did you choose to study at CCLS?

The Energy and Natural Resources Law LLM at Queen Mary surpassed my already high expectations. Many institutions in my home country offer LLM coursework, but I chose to study at Queen Mary for the inherent international component and well-deserved reputation of the Energy Law Institute. The greatest asset Queen Mary has is its people. My experience with the professors at Queen Mary was positive across the board. They are all experts who care deeply about their students.

How did you find the teaching and learning?

My classmates were diverse in their viewpoints and nationalities, but similar in their kindness and enthusiasm. I’ll never forget the trips organized by my class representative, which included touring an offshore wind farm near Brighton and a nuclear power plant in Scotland. Furthermore, the coursework was challenging and intellectually stimulating.

What was key about your programme/ were there any highlights?

The Energy Law Institute offered exceptional opportunities to learn about cutting-edge legal and commercial issues at frequent speaker events both at the Centre for Commercial Law Studies (CCLS) and in various law firms around London.

Thanks to Queen Mary, I met regularly with a mentor who practices energy law in London, published an article in the inaugural CCLS Energy Law Institute Review, and completed internships at both Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and Herbert Smith Freehills.

I will always cherish the insights I gained from my LLM and the lifelong friendships that I made.

What piece of insight or advice would you offer for future students?

My advice to incoming Queen Mary students is to invest time in your relationships with your professors and classmates. Say yes to every opportunity and savor the experience because the year will fly by very quickly!
