Cleaning in halls
The Residential Cleaning team at Queen Mary keep communal areas clean and fit for residents' use. They are responsible for your hall's communal entrances and the corridors outside your flat, they will also help clean shared bathrooms in student flats which have these.
The Residential Cleaning team is not responsible for cleaning flat kitchens - this is the responsibility of the residents in each flat, who should work together to ensure a clean and hygienic standard is maintained.
Regular kitchen checks are carried out to ensure safe living standards are upheld and your Halls' Manager will contact you if the flat kitchen is not kept in a clean condition.
If your kitchen is found to be unclean during a check, you will be given a warning as a flat and asked to clean it, to bring it up to the expected standard. If your kitchen is still unclean after that, then it maybe necessary to escalate using the residences disciplinary procedure.
The following bathroom and kitchen cleaning guidelines are in place for residents:
Shared Bathroom Cleaning Agreement [PDF 28KB]
Kitchen Cleaning Agreement [PDF 33KB]
The Residential Cleaning team operate services Monday to Friday excluding public holidays.
At Aspire Point and Sherren House: Kitchens will be checked and graded using a traffic light system according to the planned schedule and agreed standards which are displayed in each kitchen.
The Cleaning Guide below is aimed at Queen Mary Residential Services managed halls, but also has some general advice relevant to any home.
