What influenced your decision to choose a LLM at Queen Mary?

First, from an academic point of view, QMUL has the best law school in the world and is full of different law disciplines. I chose CCLS because I recognized that its academic expertise in different fields could significantly broaden my horizons.

Second, CCLS is located in the centre of London. Law, especially international economic law, is a subject closely related to social development. As a globalized city and the origin of the modern financial system, I felt that London was a place where I could receive first-hand financial and common law news.

How did you find the teaching and learning?

As I mentioned before, CCLS has the best law teaching staff in the world. Staff come from different countries, which means the teaching is not only professional, but also pluralistic.

I’d like to emphasize that my teachers of WTO law, Transnational law, and Chinese law paid great attention to classroom interaction. There were many round-table discussions, and students had to prepare reports in advance, making us search for and acquire knowledge outside of the classroom.

What was key about your programme/were there any highlights?

The most splendid part of all the courses was the constant process of communicating with professors to revise essays. This process required learning and dramatically improved my academic writing skills.

What piece of insight or advice would you offer for future students?

Postgraduate courses rely on self-study and discipline. Classroom teaching is only a tiny part, so consult teachers frequently because they are a treasure trove.

Has gaining a deeper understanding of your specialisation helped your career?

Yes. My current career is reinsurance, which covers business around the world. Academic writing and legal English practice have all been of great help to my career.

What was your best experience of studying at Queen Mary?

During the 14 months, I have made several unconditional friends from India, Turkey, Ukraine and Colombia. Our friendship is a rare and valuable opportunity for us to share different cultures and discuss issues in-depth when we were together. It is impossible to do this anywhere except in London.

Would you be willing to share your Testimonial? If so, you could help a prospective student to make an informed choice to study at Queen Mary. (Class of 2020, 2021 and 2022 only).
