We were ranked 11th in the Guardian League Tables 2023 and 32nd in the world and 7th in the UK by QS World University Rankings by Subject 2023.

We were also ranked ranked 10th in the UK and 50th in world in the THE World University Rankings 2024 by subject.

Innovative legal programmes

We offer a wide-range of specialist modules across over 50 masters programmes, enabling you to build a programme to suit your interests and career goals.

Our programmes will develop your legal knowledge, whilst enhancing your skills to tackle complex and current issues in your chosen field. Our expert academics come from a range of backgrounds and disciplines, giving you vital comparative and international perspectives.

We also offer programmes in partnership with international universities, such as the Singapore Management University, and industry bodies, such as the Institute of Art and Law.

Research excellence and innovation

Our staff help set the agenda for research in a number of key areas including commercial law, criminal justice, public and international law, and energy law. In the latest Research Assessment Exercise (REF 2014) we were ranked ninth in England, based on 86 per cent of our research activity classed as world-leading (4* the highest score possible) or internationally excellent (3*).

We also have dedicated research centres which coordinate activity, foster collaboration and team-working, and develop coherent portfolios of research, from inception to dissemination to new project development.

Career success

Our law graduates move into careers in the UK and around the world, with a large portion working as solicitors, barristers, lawyers, legal associates or paralegals. Others move into finance, regulation, consultancy, patents and trademarks.

Our Professional Development Team offer expert careers support, including dedicated one-to-one sessions and careers workshops delivered by representatives from top legal firms. You can also join the qLegal clinic which provides free legal advice, workshops and resources to tech start-up companies and entrepreneurs on a range of complex legal issues.

Facilities

Our postgraduate law centre is based in Lincoln’s Inn Fields, the heart of London’s historic legal centre, with a lecture theatre, seminar rooms and quiet study spaces. You also have access to a variety of facilities across Queen Mary, including sports facilities, reading rooms and a 24-hour library.

You will have access to a wealth of information and learning resources including a Law Library in Mile End; online legal resources such as LexisLibrary and Westlaw; and the University of London’s Institute of Advanced Legal Studies Library.
