What was key about your programme/ were there any highlights?

Being a student legal advisor at the qLegal pro bono clinic was an insightful experience that helped me a lot in my career and gave me an insight in how businesses operates.  This is very rare to see a university giving students the ability to increase their commercial awareness through pro bono clinics. I also had the ability to develop transferable skills such as advocacy and communication skills whilst presenting a webinar.

Did you combine modules across specialisation and if so, what were the advantages of this?

I had the opportunity to study Banking International Law and International Competition law. The advantage about learning these modules was that it enabled me to be more open-minded an also enhance my commercial awareness.

What piece of insight or advice would you offer for future students?

My advice to students is to stay resilient. The Master of Law requires more work than an undergraduate degree. There will be time where you will want to give up because you do not understand the class, or failed an exam. However, I believe that your presence at QMUL, one of the top ten best universities in the UK, determines your abilities. By accepting your application, the university believed in your abilities to succeed; this can also be visible through the academic support provided. You have the chance to have professors that are willing to help you succeed, therefore speak to them if you do not understand a class. Also, use the QMUL Alumni Team or the Careers Team. I do not know anyone that succeeded without going through failure first so do not give up.

Has gaining a deeper understanding of your specialisation helped your career?

Gaining a deeper understanding of my specialisation helped me develop transferable skills such as commercial awareness that then, helped my career a lot.  Thanks to this experience, the support of professors and the Career Team, I was successfully selected to attend an open day at an American law firm in 2020, and this year, selected for a competitive mentoring program at a Magic Circle Firm that only take ten people.

What was your best experience of studying at Queen Mary?

My best experience studying at Queen Mary has been the virtual friendship that I developed with my cohort in some of my modules. I now consider these friends like family.

Would you be willing to share your Testimonial? If so, you could help a prospective student to make an informed choice to study at Queen Mary. (Class of 2020, 2021 and 2022 only).
