What influenced your decision to choose a LLM at Queen Mary?

Queen Mary is one of the very few universities that offer an LLM in Insurance Law. Of all of them, the programme for this particular specialisation at CCLS is the most prestigious in the world. Also, London is a centre for insurance, so Queen Mary’s location made it an obvious choice for me.  

How did you find the teaching and learning?

The lecturers are very committed and highly qualified. The programme is demanding, and because our specialisation is very small, you have the attention of the lecturers and really have to prepare for your classes. This way you learn a lot, and I think that this training will be extremely helpful for entering the job market afterwards. 

What was key about your programme/ were there any highlights? 

I would definitely say that the opportunities we have through the great networks of our lecturers are special highlights of our programme. We have already had guest lectures and are planning more career and networking events. I am particularly looking forward to the visit of Lloyd's. 

Did you combine modules across specialisations and if so, what were the advantages of this?

I am auditing Wet Shipping Law. I am sure that this will give me a better grasp of the subject matter of Marine Insurance Law next semester. Auditing modules is a great opportunity to think outside the box of one's own programme and, in the case of the Insurance and International Shipping Law LLM, to combine both areas, which in turn can give you an advantage regarding your future career. 

What was your best experience of studying at Queen Mary? 

So far, I would say that the best experience here at Queen Mary is having met a range of international and incredibly great people. As I mentioned earlier, our cohort is small and as a result many of us have already become good friends.
