What influenced your decision to choose a LLM at Queen Mary?

I am an Indian Qualified lawyer and wanted to pursue my master’s degree in a country that followed Common Law jurisdiction as it would help me to complement my academic and professional experience.

Queen Mary University of London is an excellent choice for me to pursue my Masters, owing to its ineffable reputation, outstanding international diversity, and the faculty’s approach to teaching and learning. I was fortunate to be in a culturally diverse set of students as it encouraged healthy learning amongst a myriad of cultures. Having the opportunity to explore our interests and pursue knowledge in law, I was able to access world-class research and teaching facilities. Another factor was the wide range of modules available and the ability to choose from different specialisations that fit your specific interests which made it easy for me to find the perfect course. There were many modules available that assisted me in making an informed decision about my future career path. In addition, qLegal clinic was another element as it gave me the opportunity to advise the start-up companies and entrepreneurs. It helped me to put my theoretical knowledge into practice while studying.

How did you find the teaching & learning?

I thoroughly enjoyed my time in class. The professors were very approachable, and they helped me to realise my potential. The dynamic teaching style of the professors encouraged out-of-the-box thinking and reading materials carefully selected for us kept the module fresh and exciting each week. They were detail-oriented which fostered learning and encouraged those who were interested in corporate law. They encouraged me to focus on the impact of law on society rather than memorising large quantities of information. To add to the theoretical methodology, we also gained experience in practical knowledge and the application of skills. I learned how to give advice to my clients in helpful ways and obtained knowledge beyond the books and theory.

The professors are always available and ready to take questions and inquiries. Their lectures presented challenging information that gave food for thought. I expanded my conceptual horizon and came to a deeper understanding of the material and how it applies to the real world. We were encouraged to be proactive in our learning and, as a result, we left the lectures with a sense of comprehension of the subject. By getting involved with discussions during class hours and then applying it practically, I've been able to build confidence in myself as well as become proficient in my law practice.

Would you be willing to share your Testimonial? If so, you could help a prospective student to make an informed choice to study at Queen Mary. (Class of 2020 and 2021 only).
