Before You Apply

Before You Apply

What programmes do you offer?

We offer a full range of programmes. You can find the full list here: https://www.qmul.ac.uk/law/postgraduate/courses/

What are your entry requirements?

We require A 2:1 or above at undergraduate level in Law or a degree with substantial law content. Law graduates with a 2:2 honours degree who also have other legal qualifications and/or substantial professional legal experience may also qualify.

Do you require The Law National Aptitude Test (LNAT)?

No, we do not require the LNAT.

Do you have an English language requirement?

Yes, all students must meet English language entry requirements for all programmes of study at Queen Mary. You can find the requirements here: https://www.qmul.ac.uk/international-students/englishlanguagerequirements/postgraduatetaught/

What are the application deadlines?

Applications close for programmes as late as September but depending on your situation we advise that you apply as early as possible to allow time for visa applications, etc.

Specific deadlines will depend on the course you are applying for. Please find the deadline for your course via their course pages here: https://www.qmul.ac.uk/postgraduate/taught/deadlines/

How do I apply and is there an application fee?

Please use our course finder to decide on the programmes that are of interest to you. Each programme has its own application link and submission requirements, as well as their fees listed.

Can I apply for more than one course at a time?

No, you can only apply for one LLM (London taught) programme. Please note that all our specialist LLM programmes and Master of Laws (General) have the same entry requirement, so if you are made an offer for one programme you would almost certainly receive an offer for another.  An exception would be for those applying from a non-law background where only one specific LLM programme may be suitable. You can only enrol on one London LLM programme, so please do spend some time researching the programme most suited to your needs and interests and apply accordingly.

Can I change the programme I have applied to/have an offer for?

You can contact Admissions via your portal to request this and they will investigate this for you. It is usually possible if the entry requirements are the same for the new programme but there could be exceptions depending on your offer of study.

You can request to change programme after enrolment, but this process is more complex and can delay your module selection.

Do you interview your students?

No, we do not conduct interviews.

What should I include in my statement of purpose and can you check it for me?

Your statement of purpose is an important component of your application and it is your opportunity to introduce yourself to Queen Mary. We cannot provide feedback or advice on any drafts sent to us. The statement should explain why you want to study your chosen programme and how it will help your future career aspirations.

Do I need to have studied a related course?

This will depend on the course you are applying for. Please find the requirements for your course via their course pages here: https://www.qmul.ac.uk/law/postgraduate/courses/

Are there any scholarships available?

The School of Law offers a range of scholarships for Law Masters programmes each year, including the new School of Law Postgraduate Scholarships. Full details are made available on the law funding page from October – November each year.
