Postgraduate

Key Dates and Deadlines

Dates and deadlines of the application process are published below. Applicants should note that these dates and deadlines apply to courses delivered on site at Queen Mary University of London. The dates and deadlines for our Distance Learning courses may vary. Please contact the Postgraduate Admissions team for further information.

You are encouraged to apply as early as possible to allow sufficient time for your application to be considered. In the event that a course becomes full, we will no longer be able to consider applications. We will update the relevant course pages on our Taught Programme Finder as soon as possible in such instances.

In addition to the deadlines specified below, some programmes have specific application deadlines - please check the relevant course pages on our Taught Programme Finder to check if there is an earlier deadline for the programme/s of interest to you. If no deadline is specified then the below deadlines will apply.

Any applicant, who is not a European Economic Area national or national of Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, Switzerland or the United States, applying for a Taught Postgraduate course, may require an Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) security certificate.

If you require an ATAS security certificate, you will need to obtain your ATAS certificate, before requesting a CAS. Queen Mary University of London will not issue a CAS until your ATAS certificate has been obtained. Applicants should note, during busy periods, it can take up to six weeks to receive your ATAS security certificate.

September 2020 entry

If you joined your course in September 2020 and have been studying online, you are expected to arrive on site by 5 February 2021. If you require a visa and have not yet applied for your CAS or used a CAS that has been issued to you, the following deadlines apply:

  • Friday 8 January 2021 - CAS deadline. Any overseas applicants applying for a visa overseas must request their CAS by this date.
  • Friday 5 Feburary 2021 - Latest arrival date. Any students who enrolled and started their studies in September 2020 are expected to arrive by this date.

Please note that, if you are unable to travel to London by 5 February 2021, you may request an extension to the latest arrival date. Information about joining your January start programme

Travelling to our campus

Under the new UK Government restrictions, travelling within the UK is not advised except under special circumstances. These special circumstances include provision for students. If you do not have access to adequate facilities to study, including access to IT facilities and the internet, you can travel to join us.

Regarding our international students, we realise that some of you will already have started travelling, or will find it is too late to change your plans. If you are still able to rearrange your travel plans, you can do so and join us on campus at a later date.

If you have already arrived in the UK, or if you are a home student who has already moved to your term-time accommodation, the UK Government advises that you should remain in your accommodation rather than travel to another location.

Date students need to join us on campus

As soon as Government guidance allows us to do so, we will move to a blended learning approach, which will include in-person teaching on campus. When that moment arrives, we look forward to welcoming you onto our campuses. We will keep you updated over the coming weeks. For students who require a visa to join us and are unable to travel to us at that point, you will still be able to fully engage with your programme online. The point at which you will need to join us on campus is different depending on your programme:

  • For Masters programmes in the William Harvey Research Institute, Postgraduate Certificate (PGCert) and Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) programmes across all Schools, your latest arrival date is 29 March
  • For 12 month Masters programmes in our School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science, your latest arrival date is 30 May
  • For 9 month accelerated Masters programmes in our School of Law and our School of Economics and Finance, your latest arrival date is also 30 May
  • For 12 month Masters programmes in our School of Business and Management, School of Economics and Finance, School of Law, and School of Mathematical Sciences, your latest arrival date is 20 September

Regarding your visa, if you have already been issued a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) number or used your CAS number to apply for a visa, we will update the Home Office by 15 January with the latest arrival date for your programme. If you have any questions or want to discuss your CAS, please contact cas-admissions@qmul.ac.uk.
