Shenghao Hu, BA, MA

Shenghao

PhD Student in Comparative Literature

Profile

I majored in English literature during my undergraduate and postgraduate studies, when I was interested in Kazuo Ishiguro’s novels in particular. I built on my interest and further focused on other East Asian Anglophone writers, especially those of Chinese origin, such as Timothy Mo and Tash Aw.

My PhD research will examine memory writing and identity construction in the novels of contemporary East Asian Anglophone writers, and it will involve theories on postcolonialism, cosmopolitanism, community, memory and identity.

In addition to my PhD research, I am also interested in French and Spanish literature as well as artificial auxiliary languages and intend to expand my knowledge on them.
