What influenced your decision to choose a LLM at Queen Mary?

Several factors influenced my decision to study at CCLS. Much to my surprise, I found that few London universities offer postgraduate study programmes of Environmental Law. Queen Mary thus distinguishes itself from so many institutions in that it provides a very wide range of modules within the field. I was therefore able to specialise my studies to the areas that best align with my interests, and which are the most suited to advance my chosen career. Beyond this, the courses are taught by leading academics whose research is changing the field of Environmental Law significantly. Their high level of expertise in such a variety of specialised areas of law makes CCLS unique and one of the best of its kind. I can say with confidence that this translates into the quality of teaching, and I remain indebted to my professors for the learnings imparted by them.

I was also drawn to the idea of studying at CCLS as the postgraduate law building is located in the heart of London. This made it very convenient to get anywhere and I was able to make the most of everything this lively and vastly multicultural city has to offer.

Did you learn alongside and are you still in touch with classmates from other legal jurisdictions around the world?  How did this add to your experience?

I am still very much in touch with many of my classmates from other legal jurisdictions around the world. This has allowed me to learn about a variety of cultures and even pushed me to learn new languages. Beyond this however, the friendships I have made with so many of my classmates are invaluable to me, and I am certain that they will last a long time. I am now very much looking forward to visiting my friends in their home countries and putting all I have learnt to good use.

What piece of insight or advice would you offer for future students?

I would strongly encourage prospective students thinking about studying at CCLS to be open to new challenges and take every opportunity offered, whether these come in the form of networking possibilities, lasting friendships, or the chance to develop knowledge in new areas... Saying yes to the opportunities presented to me made the LLM the most exciting and fulfilling year yet!
