Queen Mary legal expert comments on the ICJ case against Israel

Professor Penny Green provides expert comment on South Africa's case against Israel in the International Court of Justice for Anadolu Agency.

South Africa's case against Israel at the International Court of Justice is bringing Israel's actions in Gaza under global political and legal scrutiny. Penny Green, Professor of Law and Globalization and Co-Director of the International State Crime Initiative at Queen Mary University of London, assesses that the ICJ will likely accept South Africa’s plea for provisionary measures.

Professor Green described South Africa's legal arguments as 'Very strong', with a lot of time discussing the “the bombardment of Gaza, the laying to waste effectively of Gaza with indiscriminate bombardment, the mass killing of tens of thousands of civilians, almost half of whom are children,”. In contrast, she called Israel’s arguments “very weak”, "lackluster" and "unpersuasive".
