A human right to nature: The people suing governments for environmental damage

Professor Malgosia Fitzmaurice speaks to Science Focus about the trend of giving nature its own rights.

Malgosia Fitzmaurice, Professor of Public International Law at Queen Mary University of London, was interviewed by Science Focus for an article looking into the human right to nature and why more countries are enshrining the right to a clean environment into law. “This is a completely new trend in giving nature its own rights,” says Professor Fitzmaurice. “It’s not anthropocentric anymore but it’s general and positioning human beings as part of nature, I think.”
