Good Faith in Contract Law: English and Comparative Perspectives

When: Wednesday, January 17, 2024, 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Where: Room 210, School of Law, Queen Mary University of London, Mile End Road, London E1 4NS

This conference brings together distinguished academics from across the United Kingdom to discuss recent developments relating to good faith in contract law. It will involve two panel discussions. The first panel will feature Professor Simon Whittaker (Oxford), Professor Paul S. Davies (UCL), Professor David Campbell (Lancaster), and Ms. Lorna Richardson (Edinburgh). With a focus on English law, the discussion will revolve around express and implied terms of good faith, relational contracts, and the possibility of an expansion of good faith in English law as a result of its increasing relevance at the international level. The second panel will feature Dr Magda Raczynska (UCL), Dr Stephen Bogle (Glasgow), Dr Mat Campbell (Glasgow), and Dr Paul MacMahon (LSE). This panel will enrich the discussion with comparative insights from civil law, mixed, and other common law jurisdictions. Both panels will be chaired by Professor Christina Perry (QMUL).

The event will be free and open to the public (registration required).

Date: Wednesday 17 January, 12 PM (starting with lunch, in room 210) – 4.30 PM (end of post-workshop tea).

Location: Room 210, School of Law, Queen Mary University of London, Mile End Road, London E1 4NS
