Profile

Arif Al-Mahmood is Senior Tutor in the Economist Masters Apprenticeship Programme (EMAP) at the School of Economics and Finance. 

Arif was Economic Advisor in the British Civil Service and a Government Economic Service member for nine years working in several government departments. 

Arif advised Kuwait Government on national economic planning as UNDP’s Policy Advisor Economic Growth, where he wrote several background papers for Kuwait’s 5-year national economic planning and was Research Associate at the Asian Development Institute in Tokyo. He started his career as Lecturer in Economics at Shahjalal University of Science & Technology and taught Economics to BBA and MBA students at Independent University, Bangladesh. He was Senior Economist in Management Information System (MIS) division for four years in a USAID funded multimillion dollar agribusiness development project for Bangladesh government and the International Fertilizer Development Center.     

Arif holds a PhD in Economics from Royal Holloway University of London and an MA in International Development from International University of Japan. He holds Bachelor’s and Master’s Economics degrees from University of Dhaka.
