We are pleased to confirm that the HSS Student Research Bursary Scheme Autumn 2023-24 is now open for applications from students in the School of Economic Finance and Economics. Deadline for applications is 12.00pm on Friday 01 December 2023. Complete application form to be sent via email to the attention of Isabella D’Adamo via econ-research@qmul.ac.uk.
This bursary scheme provides an opportunity to undertake paid research work, to be completed over 15 weeks between 8 January to 19th April 2024, within the School of Economics and Finance. Research projects will be carried out under the guidance of an academic member of staff within the School. The aim of the scheme is to help students to make appropriate career plans, and to understand the employability assets that they will offer future employers. They will develop students’ generic and transferable skills, such as team‐working and communication, as well as subject‐specific skills in many instances. Students will also be encouraged to reflect on their learning experiences through their research.
Applications will be checked and assessed against the skills and knowledge evidenced in the application. The outcome will be confirmed to students by the end of teaching semester.
This opportunity is open to Y2 UG, Y3/4 UG and Postgraduate Taught students (PGT) and Master by Research (MRes). Please refer to each project description (below) to see which projects are open to which cohorts.
On completion of projects feedback will be requested from both staff and students, Students will be asked to outlining the skills gained or improved, ways in which participation in the project might have improved their employability prospects, and feedback on their experience.
Bursaries are fixed at £1000 for a time commitment of no more than 76 hours, which students will be able to commit flexibly over the 15 weeks indicated above (e.g. 6 hours/week for 12 weeks and 4 hours/week for 1 week, or 7 hours/week for 10 weeks and 6 hours/week for 1 week, etc.). Bursaries will be paid in two instalments:
40% at the end of February 2024 (to be confirmed by the Project Lead on the basis of appropriate progress by the student)
60% on completion of project (to be confirmed by the Project Lead)
Following the completion of the project, it is anticipated that students will be able to evidence the experiential learning acquired and the skills they developed, via the Higher Education Achievement Record.
