Spotlight on Jewish Heritage Resources in the Queen Mary Library Collection

Library Services hold a wealth of materials and resources in our collections relating to Jewish Heritage. Please find below a list of some of our key ones:

  • Papers of Clive Macmillan Schmitthoff (c1880-1990)- a Jewish Queen Mary Professor who was forced to leave Nazi Germany in 1933. His papers also include that of his and his wife’s families lives in Germany prior to the move to London 
  • Typescript translation with annotations of 'Behind Barbed Wire and Bars’ by Rudolf Rocker (1873-1958), an activist with connections to the Jewish anarchist movement 
  • Papers of Jacob Isaacs (1855-c1970), a Jewish English Language professor at Queen Mary 
  • You can find our Jewish related archives and many more from across Europe listed on the Yerusha Project  
  • Leo Baeck London Collections – we provide access to these collections of rare pamphlets and books to do with German-Jewish life and some are also available in main library stock  

Please also note that the exhibition created in collaboration between the Leo Baeck Institute (London) and Queen Mary Library Services entitled The Secret Paths of Provenance – Stories Beyond the Text is running until Wednesday 31 January 2024 in the Ground Floor Exhibition Space, Mile End Library.
