LAW6460 Law and Religion

This module explores the relationship of law and religion and how law deals with religion. The module explores what religion is and how it is theorised. It provides an introduction to the influence of Judaism, Christianity and Islam on law and examines the distinct legal systems to which these religions gave rise. The module also includes a discussion of various problem areas that connect law to religion such as freedom of religion, religious minorities, defamation of religions, and proselytisation. This is a reading and discussion intensive module and therefore requires a willingness to read and reflect on relevant reading materials poor to each seminar.
