LAW6020 Advanced United Kingdom Human Rights Law

This module builds on knowledge acquired in Public Law and/or UK Human Rights Law. Following a short recap of the major features of the Human Rights Act 1998, the focus is on substantive human rights law including: right to life (Article 2); freedom from torture and inhuman and degrading treatment (Article 3); respect for family life (Article 8); protection of property (Article 1 Protocol 1); and prohibition of discrimination (Article 14). 

Method of assessment

  • 25% coursework (1500 words)
  • 75% exam (open book – all materials permitted)

Prerequisites

  • LAW4001 Public Law and/or LAW6019 UK Human Rights Law
