Queen Mary LLB Students hold art exhibition on ‘Re-imagining Justice’

In 2021, students from the Art of Law LLB module designed and curated an exhibition of artworks they had created during the module.

People viewing art at the ‘Re-imagining Justice’ exhibition‘Re-imagining Justice’ looks at the injustices of the law, while holding onto the possibility of transformation. The first place we set out to transform is the School of Law. We held an in-person exhibition there as a prelude to finding permanent homes for the students’ artworks on the walls of the building.

A painting at the ‘Re-imagining Justice’ exhibitionWe wanted to make our students’ presence felt in the space – not least because their artworks were created during a pandemic year under conditions of lockdown.

People viewing art at the ‘Re-imagining Justice’ exhibitionThe Art of Law module provides an introduction to a range of ways in which law and the visual arts come together now and in the past. The module explores how law appears in artworks including painting, sculpture, photography, and film. The module is convened by Dr Isobel Roel.
