Professor Penny Green comments on Downing Street's response to the Rohingya crisis


Penny Green, Professor of Law and Globalisation and Director of the International State Crime Initiative (ISCI) at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL), comments on the Rohingya Muslim crisis, in response to Downing Street’s claim that the crisis “created by the Burmese military…looks like ethnic cleansing.” Professor Penny Green argues that “If you call it ethnic cleansing it lets the government off the hook.” This claim is based on the fact that ethnic cleansing has no meaning under international law and therefore does not oblige governments to act.
