Professor Peter Alldridge - What 'Arrest' means for legal cases in Britain

Professor Peter Aldridge, Head of the Department of Law, has commented on the News of the World phone hacking case. He explained that if Rebekah Brooks is charged, following her arrest at the weekend, she will not be able to give public evidence before a parliamentary committee as it could prejudice the trial. In a separate article for the Wall Street Journal he notes that Scotland Yard "is in an awkward position. It could be the most serious crisis in confidence that UK has had with its police force in a long time." Wall Street Journal Article 1 and WSJ Article 2.
