Parody is a form of creativity that often involves the use of pre-existing works. As such, it presents problems for copyright law. These problems have been dealt with in different ways within the Member States of the European Union. In its judgment in (C-201/13) Deckmyn v Vandersteen, the Court of Justice established parameters for the treatment of parody in European Union law. This seminar considers the impact of Deckmyn (if any) in a number of Member States, including France, Belgium and the United Kingdom.
