Queen Mary wins at the 2023 Global Arbitration Review Awards

Professor Maxi Scherer won the award for best prepared and most responsive arbitrator at the Global Arbitration Review Awards, which were held on 30 March 2023.

Over 370 people attended the event in the opera ballroom at the InterContinental Paris Le Grand, as part of Paris Arbitration Week.

Regularly ranked by Chambers, Who’s Who Legal, The Legal 500 etc. as a leading arbitration practitioner, Professor Scherer has been identified amongst the top 20 “Global Elite Thought Leaders” and described by peers and clients as “one of the greatest and most complete arbitrators of her generation,” “a brilliant legal mind,” “one of the most prominent arbitration scholars in Europe,” “excellent academic and arbitrator” and “one of the very best in both commercial and investment arbitration proceedings.”

Professor Scherer, who holds the Chair for International Arbitration, Dispute Resolution and Energy Law, has extensive experience with arbitral practice both in civil and common law systems. She has been involved in more than 120 arbitrations as counsel and arbitrator in commercial and investment.

Professor Zachary Douglas QC also won the award for best lecture for the 3 Verulam Buildings and Queen Mary Inaugural Lecture entitled “Instead of Principles, Slogans”.
