Prof. Kokkoris comments on EU competition report in Financial Times

Google, Amazon, Facebook and other major technology companies could face fresh antitrust challenges after an EU report recommended sweeping changes to how the bloc enforces its competition rules.

Ioannis Kokkoris, antitrust expert and Professor of Law and Economics at Queen Mary’s Centre for Commercial Law Studies, said the report had potential for making a “significant” impact on the tech sector. “The report gives the commission the justification to start looking into conduct of digital companies and finding better ways to address any issues,” he said “It comes at a time when the UK, Germany, France and others are looking into antitrust in the digital markets, so the commission needs to step in and have its own policy. This is a welcome step.”
