Why did you choose to study at CCLS?

Having worked in the areas of arbitration and litigation, I wanted to pursue a programme with a strong focus on arbitration and cross border disputes. After analysing the faculty and coursework offered at various universities, I came to the conclusion that CCLS offered one of the most reputed programmes in comparative dispute resolution through its LLM in Comparative and International Dispute Resolution. The CIDR programme also allowed me to explore my interests and specialise in various aspects of commercial arbitration and litigation by offering courses in international and investment arbitration and sector specific courses in energy, construction and maritime arbitration. In the two years since graduating from CCLS, I believe the knowledge and exposure I gained have been invaluable to me in my professional development

What was your favourite memory as a CCLS student?

There were many memorable moments while studying at CCLS. The moments that stand out the most are attending the various classes while at CCLS. I particularly enjoyed the lectures by Professors Brekoulakis and Mistelis, where various topics relating to arbitration and international litigation were debated and perspectives from different jurisdictions were shared and explored. These experiences provided me with a holistic understanding of dispute resolution. I also fondly remember strolling across Lincoln Inn Fields and the IALS library while researching for my dissertation.

What does being a member of the CCLS community mean to you?

CCLS, being one of the oldest centers on commercial law, has a vast alumni base and this provides graduates from the center with a network which span the globe. CCLS provided me the opportunity to not only network with my fellow classmates but also with esteemed alumni such as legal professionals and academics, as well as younger professionals from London and across the world. I believe it is a great privilege to be an alumnus of this esteemed institution and feel a sense of immense pride and honor to be part of it.

How did your CCLS experience contribute to your career?

The courses I studied at CCLS allowed me to understand the intricate principles involved in questions surrounding the conflict of laws and choice of law, which are pertinent issues in any cross border commercial dispute. This clarity of thought regarding the important factors to keep in mind while solving such complex legal problems has proved to be an invaluable asset that has helped me in my legal career as a dispute resolution professional in India.  The opportunity to interact with some of the eminent practitioners and academics from different jurisdictions on the subject allowed me to develop a well-rounded understanding of various topics in international dispute resolution law.

Why do you think prospective students should study at CCLS?

I believe that the renowned faculty members and wide variety of courses on offer makes CCLS a choice institution to further hone one’s legal skills. CCLS, being located in the heart of London and its legal field also gives anyone studying there the advantage of being only a stone’s throw away from the reputed commercial chambers and law firms in nearby Chancery Lane. The fact that students from across the world join CCLS also makes it a very welcoming experience for foreign students, who can learn a great deal from each other as well.
