Overview of some of the latest research done by CCLS academics last year

In the latest Research Assessment Exercise (REF2021) Queen Mary School of Law was ranked 15th in the UK, according to Times Higher Education, with 87 per cent of our School’s research outputs classed as world-leading (4* the highest score possible) or internationally excellent (3*). 

Professor Julia Hörnle’s (CCLS Professor of Internet Law and CCLS alumna PhD Law, 2008) research into how online gambling and regulation is strengthening regulation and its enforcement, and reducing the harms of online gambling. In particular, the research has benefited player protection and improved regulation worldwide through five key impacts. Read about Julia’s research in full and watch her presentation.

Christopher Millard (CCLS Professor of Privacy and Information Law) is leading on the Queen Mary’s Cloud Legal Project (CLP) which has been influential in demystifying cloud service arrangements, and in ensuring that legal frameworks provide appropriate safeguards. CLP launched in 2009 by Queen Mary Professors Millard, Walden, and Reed, was the first legal research project to focus specifically on cloud computing. Over the years, the CLP has received generous financial support from Microsoft and the European Commission, among others. Read about the Cloud Legal Project.

Dr Miriam Goldby (CCLS Professor of Shipping, Insurance and Commercial Law, Director of the Centre’s Insurance, Shipping & Aviation Law Institute).
