Profile

I am an academic trainee cardiologist based at Queen Mary University of London and Barts Health NHS Trust. I have recently completed my PhD (2018-2021), supported by a three-year British Heart Foundation Clinical Research Training Fellowship. My doctoral research was focused on investigating novel cardiovascular disease determinants and their interactions across organ systems using large scale demographic, clinical, and multiorgan imaging data in the UK Biobank. I was awarded the 2021 Cardiology President’s Gold Medal from the Royal Society of Medicine and the 2022 Alfred Thomas Corrie Prize from Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry. I have had leading roles in development of novel imaging biomarkers using cardiovascular magnetic resonance data in the UK Biobank (e.g., radiomics analysis, pericardial adiposity). In October 2021, I was appointed NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturer at QMUL/Barts, which will allow me to complete my clinical training whilst continuing my research activity (50/50 split). I have since expanded my research portfolio to incorporate studies using routine UK primary care data and routine health data from the USA.

Research

My research interests are centred on big data cardiovascular epidemiology, multi-organ health, and development of novel cardiovascular imaging biomarkers. My work spans a diverse range of topics with the common theme of integrating large scale imaging and non-imaging data to answer important health-related questions, using both statistical and machine learning methods. I work within close cross-disciplinary collaborations benefiting from mixed skill teams including academic clinicians, statisticians, data scientists, and engineers.
