As a Department we offer a distinctive MA in Anglo-German Cultural Relations, however our language graduates are also encouraged to consider the MA in Comparative Literature.
Our PhD supervision across the Department covers a whole range of research topics in literary, linguistic, and cultural history from the Middle Ages to the present.
We are especially interested in aesthetic paradigms, the study of the emotions, the connections between literature and science and the history of ideas more generally, gender and sexuality, and the linguistics of language policy and language ideology. We welcome PhD applications across all of these areas. Please note the Departments interests are very broad and if you have a project in an area not mentioned please get in touch and discuss with us.
