Remote Desktop Services: Server File & Application Access (Trial run)
Service provided
The RDS(Remote Desktop Service) provides CCLS staff with remote file access to the shared drives on the server. This is done using the Microsoft Internet Browser
.
RDS also provides remote access to Microsoft packages. This means you can access the following software over RDS :
Microsoft Word 2007
Microsoft Excel 2007
Microsoft Power Point 2007
Prerequisites
To use this service you need to make sure your computer is up to date with the latest Microsoft security updates. Please select the the Operating system installed on your computer below and install the corresponding updates by clicking on the links beside them:
Windows XP
*Download and install Microsoft Service Pack 3 from this link
*Download and install new security update from this link
*Download and install new remote desktop client from this link
Once the above two files have been downloaded and installed you will be able to remotely connect to the server.
Windows 7
Windows 7 should already meet the above requirements so there should be no need to download additional software. However it is always best practice to ensure you are up to date with the latest Microsoft patches.
How to login
To use the above login you will need your work pc/laptop username and password.
Open Internet Explorer and type in the following website address or simply click on the link:
* You will be presented with a white screen similar to the one below. You will be requested for login details(same login used at work pc/laptop).
When typing in your details please remember to add 'CCLS\' at the front. E.g.:
Note: If you select 'This is a private/work computer' setting in the above page your login settings will be remembered.
Once logged in you will see the software available for use:
Simply click on them to use.
Note: A security box may appear asking for your login details again. Once you type them in and select the 'remember my login details' check box , you should not be prompted again.
FAQ:
1- XP users
After logging onto the remote desktop connection website I get an ActiveX related error similar to the one below in Internet Explorer:
This could mean:
ActiveX client control is not installed
ActiveX client control is disabled
The Internet Explorer Browser needs to be given permission to run the ActiveX client Control.
If you are receiving any of the first two errors you need to go into 'Tools-->Manage Add-ons' in Internet Explorer.
You should see two
Windows Vista Users and above
On newer version of Internet Explorer you maybe prompted with the following request:
