What is mentoring?

Mentoring is a supportive and mutually respectful relationship between an experienced professional (the mentor) and a motivated individual seeking guidance (the mentee).

Your mentor can provide valuable insights, share their skills and experiences, and help you develop a career plan tailored to your goals.

This relationship is built on:

  • Mutual respect
  • Trust
  • Encouragement
  • Constructive feedback
  • A willingness to learn and share

As a mentee, you represent the Centre for Commercial Law Studies and the School of Law at Queen Mary University of London, demonstrating professionalism and commitment throughout the programme.

Eligibility

The programme is open to all postgraduate law students either in full-time or part-time studies.

Feedback from Previous Mentees of the 2023/24 cycle

My mentor has been an invaluable resource throughout my journey, consistently going above and beyond to offer timely and insightful advice. Beyond our formal mentoring sessions, my mentor made it a point to stay in touch via email, ensuring I always felt comfortable reaching out for guidance whenever needed. His commitment was evident in the thorough reviews of my CV and cover letters, providing detailed feedback that greatly enhanced my applications. I’m grateful for his dedication and support, which made a significant difference in my professional development.
I am incredibly grateful to have joined the mentoring programme. My mentor has instilled so much confidence in me and always uplifted me with her kind and encouraging words. Thanks to her, I now have much more confidence, not just in my career, but also as a person. Her positivity radiates from her, and anyone would be lucky to have her as a mentor.
I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation for my mentor. He has been such a warm and supportive presence throughout our time together. His insights have been invaluable in helping me identify areas where I needed improvement, and his guidance has truly made a difference in my journey. What I admire most about him is his genuine care for his mentees. He always checks in to see if his insights are helpful, which speaks volumes about his dedication and kindness. Conversations with him are not only enlightening but also enjoyable, as he has a friendly demeanour that makes it easy to open up and share my thoughts. Overall, he is an amazing person to talk to, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have had him as my mentor. Thank you for everything!
My mentor was perfect for me because we were able to discuss several topics from life experiences, politics, religion, and issues that were personal to us. I think he's a very kind person because he went the extra mile to ensure that I was gaining at least something from the programme, he was humble as well, he didn't have any intimidating am a professional at this topic outlook, so I felt at ease talking to him even though he was more experienced. He was always punctual and never cancelled a meeting despite his busy schedule. I appreciate his input to my growth, and that he allowed me to remain in contact with him as I navigate through my career growth, so for that and more I'm so thankful to him... hopefully, soon enough I will be part of the program again as a mentor!
