Prof. Rafael Leal-Arcas presents his WiseGRID project in Saudi Arabia

Professor Rafael Leal-Arcas, Jean Monnet Chair holder in EU International Economic Law at Queen Mary University of London, will present his WiseGRID project funded by the EU’s Horizon 2020 at King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Centre (KAPSARC) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on 22 October 2019.

He will speak on the topic of 'Developing an effective and integrated electricity market: The EU experience', in the 2nd Round Table ‘Regional Electricity Sector Integration in GCC and MENA: Imperatives & Challenges.’

Here is a summary of the session where Professor Rafael Leal-Arcas will give his presentation:

"This session will discuss the international experience in developing an integrated electricity market in other geographies, and how their learnings can be useful in accelerating the process of market integration in the GCC and MENA region. A range of issues (from policy, regulation, governance to implementation) that facilitated in creating a well-functioning electricity markets will be discussed to identify potential enablers for this region. Discussions will also include emerging market design issues associated with the growing share of renewables, both in the context of national electricity markets and in a wider interconnected regional market."
