Professor Rosa M Lastra from the Centre for Commercial Law Studies at Queen Mary, University of London and Professor Christian Tietje from the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg have collaborated with Thomas Cottier, from the World Trade Institute (WTI) to organise the World Trade Forum 2012 'The Rule of Law in Monetary Affairs: Lessons from the Trade Field'.

The World Trade Forum is an annual conference organised by the WTI of the University of Bern. WTI Forums assemble a group of renowned scholars, policy makers and leaders from international and civil society organizations from various disciplinary backgrounds with a view to fostering cutting-edge research and promoting in-depth discussion on key challenges in international economic law and policy.

This year's forum seeks to explore, at the global level, the role of law in the international monetary and financial system, from the perspective of its relationship with the international trading system, in particular the lessons from the institutional architecture of World Trade Organization (WTO), its global rules on trade and its dispute settlement system.

The WTI Forum 2012 will take place in Bern on 12-13 October 2012 and will have four main sessions:

  1. Foundations of the International Monetary System;
  2. The Quest for Law in Monetary Policy;
  3. Specific Policy Issues in Monetary Affairs; and
  4. Procedural Aspects in Monetary Law.
