CCLS India Chapter Arbitration Master Class

Published:

CCLS India Chapter Arbitration Master ClassCCLS India Chapter organised an Arbitration Master Class on 24th February, 2021 over a zoom session, which was moderated by Mr. Ajit Mishra, the Chapter lead. We had the pleasure of having Mr. Percival Billimoria as the speaker, who has his own Chamber in New Delhi India. Mr. Billimoria has been a prominent lawyer in the cases of commercial disputes and competition law.

Mr. Billimoria gave us insights into the interpretation of Section 8 and Section 45 of the Indian Arbitration and Conciliations Act, for domestic and international arbitrations respectively. He discussed the arbitrability of disputes and how the subject matter of the dispute can, in certain cases, make it not amenable to arbitration. Mr. Billimoria walked us through the evolving jurisprudence in the subject and how the courts in India have settled various contentious issues on the arbitrability of certain subject matter disputes. It was an extremely informative and enlightening session.

The session was attended by CCLS alumni and a few other lawyers. In total we had 97 registrants for this event. There was also a question and answer session at the end, which helped in clarifying the doubts of the attendees on the subject.
