Alumni Bulletin 2019 Welcome

Welcome from the Director of CCLS (Alumni Bulletin Autumn 2019)

Welcome to the latest edition of the CCLS Alumni Bulletin. We are very excited as we approach 2020 and the celebration of 40 years of the Centre for Commercial Law Studies. There will be a special 40th anniversary event held at the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn on 18th June 2020, to which you are all cordially invited (further details to follow).

There will also be many other opportunities to meet up at events and reunions held across the globe throughout 2020. I hope we see many of you over the coming year, either in London or overseas, as we celebrate the achievements of CCLS and our alumni and look forward to the next 40 years of cutting edge research, teaching and impact in commercial law. Recently I had a wonderful opportunity to meet up with many of our alumni in Seoul, Shanghai and Beijing during a trip to Asia. I was delighted to hear about the range of impressive careers our alumni have embarked on after studying with us, both within and beyond the law. Reunion events like these allow us to keep in touch and hear ideas and suggestions about what else we can do to enhance our relationships, not to mention the good food and drink, as well as the opportunity to catch up with peers, academics and hear the latest news from CCLS.

We are organising similar events across the world and welcome you to join us, share your stories and stay connected. In the Spring 2020 issue of the Alumni Bulletin you will be able to read an interview with Professor Sir Roy Goode, the founder of CCLS and our inspiration. I am pleased to introduce you to Celia Blakeway-Phillips, who has recently been appointed as External Relations and Development Manager. If you would like to get involved with organising a celebration event more locally to you, please do get in touch with her. Our Alumni and Development Team will be able to promote alumni activities on your behalf to encourage other alumni to join in. I look forward to seeing many of you at our planned alumni events. Please keep in touch by e-mailing us at ccls-alumni@qmul.ac.uk

With all good wishes,
Professor Ian Walden
