New CCLS Director Professor Ioannis Kokkoris introduces himself across two events

Director Professor Ioannis Kokkoris, Dr Franziska Arnold-Dwyer and Professor Rosa Lastra discuss his new directorship.

The CCLS community was introduced to the Centre's new Director, Professor Ioannis Kokkoris, across two Zoom events on Thursday 10th November. The morning session dialogue was moderated by Professor Rosa Lastra, with the afternoon session moderated by Dr Franziska Arnold- Dwyer who joined from Sharm El-Sheikh where she was attending the COP27 conference.

Ioannis began the events by introducing himself to the community and expressing that he is happy to have begun his directorship. He then outlined the progress of CCLS so far and his plans for it in the future. Excited by the fact that CCLS started with one programme but now has more than 20 specialisms, Ioannis said that he wants to replicate this growth in the Centre's engagement with industry, governance and professional practice. He noted that the world is very different to when the Centre was founded 42 years ago, and its teaching and research must remain cognizant of contemporary challenges including the economy, AI, and the metaverse. This strategy will be supported by upcoming growth over the next year in CCLS staffing levels, both academic and in professional services. Another priority for Ioannis will be the Paris campus, which he believes will allow CCLS to be on EU soil, and therefore address issues that are internationally relevant.

Ioannis’ outline of his strategy was followed by a Q&A session in which members of the community had the opportunity to ask him questions about topics that included his strategy, opportunities for the community to collaborate with CCLS, international alumni chapter activity, and trends in the UK education sector.

The event was well received, with comments from attendees left below:

“I have no questions at this time but just thought I should mention what a nice engagement this has been. Thanks for the opportunity. Congrats again, Prof. Kokkoris.”

And please I will always be available to volunteer and help in any way that I can - specifically the mentoring and fund-raising aspects. Best wishes again from Abuja, Nigeria”.
