The CCLS India Chapter, which was launched on 26th November, 2020 has grown into a full-fledged community of Indian alumni based around the world. On 19th December, 2022, the India Chapter celebrated its Second Anniversary and to mark this milestone, we had the pleasure of hosting Mr. Rajiv K Luthra, the Founder & Managing Partner of Luthra & Luthra, one of the biggest law firms in India with a global presence.

The event was hosted virtually on Zoom and a number of alumni attended the event to gain insights into the journey of a legal legend. Dr Andromachi Georgosouli, Senior Lecturer at CCLS introduced Mr. Luthra and then Mr. Luthra told the attendees that he did not come from a family of lawyers and started as a Chartered Accountant initially but found auditing to be a monotonous task! He then setup a tax practice but did not have the right of audience before the High Court & the Supreme Court, so courageously at the age of 31, Mr. Luthra pursued law and opened his law firm, which has expanded from 7-8 lawyers to 4 different offices across India with more than 100 lawyers.

During the session, which was moderated by Mr. Ajit Mishra (Intellectual Property Law LLM, 2005), the Chapter Head, Mr. Luthra told the attendees that he likes to take it one day at a time and believes that you have to enjoy and be happy with what you do. His secret to successfully running and expanding a firm is that he would hold monthly meetings for an hour and discuss the problems and solutions with the people at the firm to set standards.

The India Chapter also awarded Achievers and Rising Stars, who were selected by the Committee and announced by Raveesha Gupta (Intellectual Property Law LLM, 2015). Shireen Moti (Laws LLM, 2017) , Mudit Raizada (Intellectual Property Law LLM, 2013) & Jeet Bhatt (Commercial and Corporate Law LLM, 2011) were awarded the Achievers award, and Nimisha Thomas (Comparative and International Dispute Resolution LLM, 2019) & Abhinav Kumar (Technology, Media and Communications Law LLM, 2022) were awarded the Rising Stars award. Mr. Luthra congratulated the awardees and gave his blessings.

Krishan Insan (Comparative and International Dispute Resolution LLM, 2020)
requested that Mr. Luthra answer a few questions sent by the attendees, and Zafar Khurshid (Intellectual Property Law LLM, 2013) thanked Mr. Luthra for his gracious presence and time. The CCLS India Chapter is looking forward to more members joining it and hosting offline events in the future.
