Turkey Chapter Launch Event zoom meeting screen shot

The Turkey Chapter was launched with a Zoom welcome event on Wednesday 28th April. The welcome was given by Professor Ian Walden, CCLS Director and Dr Loukas, Mistelis, Professor of Transnational Commercial Law and Arbitration.

Committee member Ali Yesilirmak (International Commercial Arbitration Law LLM, 2005) spoke on behalf of the Committee sharing: ‘The CCLS Turkey Chapter is for both alumni who reside in Turkey and those who live overseas. We have a very active and growing group on LinkedIn. So far, 114 alumni have joined the CCLS Turkey LinkedIn group. Please do join it as well if you haven't done so already. The Chapter is organised by alumni for alumni so we are here to listen to your suggestions about how you would like to see the Chapter developing and the events you would like to see in the future. There are 8 of us on the new Committee, all ready to discuss your suggestions.’

Professor Loukas Mistelis shared ‘Hello everyone! It is so nice to get our Turkey Chapter launched today with this event and I am delighted to see so many of our alumni here! I have been working at Queen Mary for over 22 years and have met many diverse, ambitious, driven, extremely intelligent and talented students, which makes my work so exciting. I have been to Turkey many times over the years and seen lots of our alumni at various events that I attended. I have a great affinity for Turkey as a place and the people. Therefore, I am so pleased to be chosen to act as academic liaison for this Chapter.

In recent years we established numerous alumni groups and chapters, of which we currently have 19. And so I am very pleased to add the newly established Turkey Chapter to this list. For us it is very rewarding to have a close relationship with Turkey and have many students from there who go on to have international careers after our courses. I can see many alumni here at this event who do regulatory work, private practice, academia etc., which is brilliant.’

Nazil Cansin Karga (Intellectual Property Law LLM, 2011) added ‘I am so happy to be a part of this event that CCLS has organised. There are a lot of successful Turkish lawyers across the world; this is a great platform to bring some of those together and enlarge our network!’

Bagdagul Kaya Caner (Environmental Law LLM 2011) said ‘I feel like I never left CCLS after my studies as I made so many friends, who I am still in touch with now. And I am very happy to see everyone here today at this welcome event.’

Nisanur Hekimoglu (International Dispute Resolution and Economic Law LLM, 2017) added ‘Today’s QMUL Turkey-Chapter Meeting was a very great venue for social and professional networking. We are over hundred alumni members in Turkey and I look forward to sharing our experiences and continue to develop our legal skills. Please join our Chapter, stay in touch and look out for future events. Looking forward to see new members.’
